FLORENTINE SCHOOL, MID 16TH CENTURY | ALLEGORY OF CHARITY
Property from the Estate of Dr. Marta Dzirkalis and Arthur Dzirkalis, Esq.
FLORENTINE SCHOOL, MID 16TH CENTURY
ALLEGORY OF CHARITY
oil on canvas
canvas: 61⅛ by 40⅞ in.; 152.7 by 103.8 cm.
framed: 64¼ by 44 in.; 163.2 by 111.8 cm.
The canvas is lined. An impressive image reads well, though the paint surface appears slightly abraded and has thinned with time. Old frame marks are visible along the edges. Scattered repairs are visible to the naked eye, such as in the lower right corner, and proper right index finger of the lady. A line of inpainting, possibly addressing an old fold, runs vertically from the extreme edges through the lady's proper right shoulder. This along with the aforementioned repairs all fluoresce under UV. Further spots of retouching are here and there in the background. This painting could benefit from some attention. Offered framed.
