Probably, G.C. Williamson, John Downman A.R.A., His Life and Works, London, 1907, p. LX, fourth series, volume V, no. 16, as 'Two of the Lady of General Hay, Commander of Maidstone Barracks, 1805'

The sitter was the daughter of Lt. Col. Duncan Campbell of Killiechronan on the Isle of Mull and Edeanor Baker of Fort Edward, New York. She was born in New York in 1774 but had returned to Britain by 1788, the year she married the Scottish army officer James Hay (1761-1837). Her husband was later promoted to the rank of full General and knighted by the King. Long after Arabella's death in 1819, he married, as his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Guthrie.
