With The Cromer Antique Gallery, Cromer;
by descent to the present owner
Sillett is a rare artist, who was an early member of the Norwich school. This group of painters was active in Norfolk during the early nineteenth century. Other members included, John Crome (1768-1821) and, most celebrated of all, John Sell Cotman (1782-1842).
The Cromer Antique Gallery was founded by E.D. Levine (a third generation Norfolk antique dealer) circa 1928, and he operated as the leading Norwich school dealer until his death in 1986. This work has descended within his family until today.
For another work by Sillett, please see the preceeding lot.
