This bold and somewhat Caravaggesque genre scene by Giovanni Antonio Burrini depicts figures reading at a table with two other figures conversing in the background.
Burrini was one of the founding members of the Accademia Clementina in Bologna. He began his artistic career with the painter Domenico Maria Canuti (1625-1684) and later studied under Lorenzo Pasinelli (1629-1700).
