FRENCH SCHOOL, 17TH CENTURY | STILL LIFE OF TULIPS, A ROSE AND OTHER FLOWERS IN A GLASS VASE

The panel is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is relatively clean, with a slightly discoloured varnish. There are a handful of tiny surface scuffs in the background, and in the ledge. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals an opaque and uneven varnish, making it difficult to discern intervention. There are, however, a few minor, small spots of retouching visible: in the background, upper left; in the bottom of the tulip, upper right; along the centre of the right margin; in the background around the lower half of the vase; and to a more concentrated area in the ledge along the centre of the lower margin. But the painting is in overall very good condition.
