Though slightly more measured in handling than many of Vinckboons' often highly expressive drawings, this appealing study of a lady and gentleman walking together can be compared in style with some of the artist's designs for vignettes in the borders of engraved maps, such as the exceptional Allegory of Kingship, sold in Amsterdam.1 There are also similarities with aspects of the penwork in the very energetic drawing of Danaë, acquired in 2002 by the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.2
