The panel is uncradled, bevelled on all sides, and is flat and stable. The paint surface is slightly dirty and the varnish slightly discoloured. There are areas of discoloured retouching in the sky (visible in the illustration) and inspection under ultraviolet light reveals another campaign of restoration comprised of pin-prick retouchings scattered in the sky, with 5 slightly more concentrated areas of retouching along the upper margin and in the sky upper right, none of which measure more than 0.5 x 2 cm. The foreground and shipping appear to be almost entirely untouched.
