Anonymous sale ('The Property of a Gentleman'), London, Sotheby's, 4 April 1984, lot 254 (as attributed to Jan Pauwel Gillemans), where acquired by the father of the present owner.
A very similar painting by the artist, with an additional parakeet on the edge of the stone plinth and with the chaffinch in flight, sold at Sotheby's, London, 11 July 2002, lot 137 (oil on canvas, 127 x 99 cm.).1
