The canvas has a firm lining, the paint surface is slightly dirty, and the varnish is relatively clear. Some small retouchings are visible to the naked eye in the sky above the angel with the crown upper left, to a small, repaired damaged in the red parasol, and to numerous pin-prick losses scattered throughout the composition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals further was retouching throughout the sky and lines of strengthening in the darker shadows of the figural composition, such as in the horses' heads and legs. These do not detract from the legibility of the image which is ready to hang in its current state, the painting being in overall good condition.

The modello for this scene is in the Prado Museum, Madrid;1 the present composition is seen in reverse and must be based on an engraving of the modello.
