CHARLES MELLIN | SALVATOR MUNDI
6,000 - 8,000 GBP
The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is slightly dirty with a slightly discoloured varnish. Inspection under ultraviolet light appears to reveal at least two campaigns of restoration. Some areas in the child's hair, proper left eye socket and chest fluoresce more lightly, whereas extensive retouching throughout his face, neck, his hand (notably index finger) and white drapery fluoresce more darkly. There are also retouchings which fluoresce even more darkly, notably around his hairline, proper left eye, nose and mouth, and scattered in the background. The retouchings in the right side of his face, hair, and in his chest are visible to the naked eye. In overall fair condition.
