Given by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia, during one of his trips to Norway in 1840, to Peter Schnitler (d. 1844), pastor of the church Vang in Valdres, Norway;
Thence by descent to the present owner.

The parish church of Vang at Valdres in Norway was due to be demolished in 1840 and sold for wood, but at the sale in 1841 it was acquired by the painter J.C. Dahl, and subsequently reconstructed in Potsdam in 1844.
