The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty, and the varnish is discoloured. There is an area of discoloured retouching visible to the naked eye on the right side of the sky, and the paint surface is general is slightly worn. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the thick, opaque varnish and confirms the aforementioned retouching in the sky, as well as revealing other small, scattered retouchings in the sky, in Christ's face and scattered in the foreground, most notably in the lower right corner. The painting is in overall fair condition.
