Pen and ink and watercolour and gouache;
inscribed in the cartouche on the mount: Vue de La Place Louis XV / 1792 and bears indistinct inscription and possible signature on the pedestal of the statue: Chipart (?)

framed: 550 by 770 mm
The Place Louis XV is known today as Place de la Concorde, with, at its centre an equestrian statue of Louis XV.
It has not been possible to decipher the entire inscription on the pedestal of the statue but it appears that it could include the signature of the artist: Chipart (?). There is a record of a French artist called L. Chipart (1744-1807) who is described as a landscape painter.
