A magnificent specimen of red jasper, of sculptural form, resembling a work of contemporary sculpture. Jasper has long played a role in art, and in fact, the Christians of the Middle Ages made frequent use of red jasper to illustrate the blood in scenes of the crucifixion, leading to it being called the "stone of martyrs".
