SMALL FORM (NOVEMBER)
white alabaster
height (including base): 20cm.; 7¾in.; height (excluding base): 14cm.; 5½in.
width: 8cm.; 3in.
Carved in 1962, the present work is unique.
We are grateful to Dr Sophie Bowness for her kind assistance with the cataloguing apparatus for the present work, which will feature in her forthcoming revised catalogue raisonné of the Artist's sculpture as no. BH323.
The sculpture appears sound. The work appears to be in excellent overall condition. The work has recently had a light clean by Felix Thornton Jones.
The piece exhibits some natural veining and occlusions, inherent to the material. These intrinsic elements are visible in a few very fine lines of veining, including to the upper edge at right and to the reverse. There are one or two extremely minor nicks, including to the reverse in the upper half and to the right side of the sculpture (possibly inherent). A short, fine abrasion to the front, beneath the upper opening.
The work is attached to the original wooden base which has a few minor scuffs and nicks to surfaces and is in overall very good condition.
Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
