Samarendranath Ghose, also known as Samar Ghose, was one of the finest students of Mukul Dey during his time as the principal of Government School of Art, Calcutta. Ghose exhibited great talent in both draughtsmanship and printmaking. The current lot has been signed by both Ghose and Dey and thus attributed to both. The collaboration of these artists gives us a glimpse of the environment of a print-making workshop and overall apprenticeship tradition of the Bengal School.
