The exceptional abstractionist, Sunita Shrestha, studied at the Sir J. J. School of Art in Bombay. There, she met her husband, Laxman Shrestha, who likewise became a master of abstraction. Sunita and Laxman moved in intimate circles of Indian artists and collectors, counting Maqbool Fida Husain, Vasudeo S. Gaitonde and Jehangir Nicholson among their close friends. Sunita’s exquisite paintings recall the incredible gradation of colour seen in the work of her friend Gaitonde, but her exact and atmospheric deployment of delicate geometric forms is wholly unique.
