'He Huaishuo's paintings are unique in his fine expression of human feeling, of subtle and powerful human emotion through nature - sorrowful, bleak, lonely, desolate human emotion and overwhelming nature. Moreover, his paintings are always very beautiful. What He Huaishuo painted and wrote on the triptych were Su Dongpo's Memories of the Red Cliff, in which the Song Dynasty poet lamented the extraordinary battle and the come-and-go of historical figures. After we had purchased the powerful landscape painting on scrolls by He Huaishuo at his exhibit at an art gallery in Taipei, we went to his studio to discuss putting it on a screen. Sallie then had the idea of asking He Huaishuo to write calligraphy on the reverse side of the screen, and he graciously wrote The Red Cliff poem from the Song Dynasty.'
