'In December 1973, we learned that Chuang Che would be going in the new year to the University of Michigan. Sallie thus drove four hours to Taichung to visit him at his home. In the afternoon Chuang Che, his wife and Sallie drank tea and looked at his paintings for four hours.

Sallie at the end of a pleasing day purchased a blue, black and yellow powerful abstract painting, and she - tired but very happy - drove the four-hour return trip to Taipei to show me our new painting!'

「一九七三年十二月，我們得知莊喆將會在新的一年前往密歇根大學，夫人因此開了四個小時的車到他台中的家探望。那個下午，莊喆夫婦和夫人品茗賞畫，度過了四個小時。

在這愉快的一天的最後，夫人購藏了一張藍﹑墨﹑黃色調的，充滿力量的的抽象繪畫，當她疲倦但快樂地又開了四個小時的車回到台北之後，即向我展示我們的新藏品！」
