Gifted to the present owner by the artist

Ancestors Starting to Converge Again, comes from the collection at Holifield Farm Project, an education centre committed to promoting sustainable living and protecting the environment. The present lot reflects the values shared at the project; enabling individuals to discover the intrinsic qualities within themselves and understand how they contribute to the wider community. In 2004, The Eden Project, a charity which mirrors these values, commissioned El Anatsui to create a sculpture, Totems, for its Tropical Biome (the largest indoor rainforest in the world, with an aim to connect humans with the natural world), comprising mainly of hand-carved African Greenheart wood salvaged from the Queen's Wharf fire at Falmouth Docks in January 2003.

Ancestors Starting to Converge Again, a gift from the artist to Holifield, is a reminder of the responsibilities that we have been charged with; to preserve and protect our environment, educate and nurture those in our care, and to commit to supporting one another in challenging times.
