Daniel De St. Leu is listed as active tween 1753-1797, in 1765 he was appointed Watchmaker to the Queen. His business was succeeded to by David Rivers and Son.
De St. Leu specialised in watches for the Turkish market. The present watch is particularly notable for its large size and remarkable state of preservation. Furthermore, it is especially unusual to find a watch by this maker retaining the original matching chatelaine.
