During the 1920s, experimentation in watch design led to novel forms of time display. While the jump hour watch itself was not a new concept, its form and style was especially well suited to the slim dress watches of the Art Deco period. In 1926, Breguet patented the design of a watch with an unusual form of jumping hours. As seen in the present watch, the hour aperture was carried at the edge of a revolving inner dial, this aperture formed a pointer which indicated to an outer minute ring as the disc turned. Completing one revolution every hour, the new hour would appear within its aperture as its pointer reached the 60-minute marker.
