In their book: The History of the Self-Winding Watch, A. Chapuis & E. Jaquet note that in 1780, when Recordon was granted his letters patent for his self-winding watches, "several watchmakers in the Neuchâtel Jura district were already producing self-winders, following the example by Abraham-Louis Perrelet...however...apart from Jonas Perret-Jeanneret of Le Locle, one other only, Moyse Gevril, is known so far" (see op. cit. rev. Eng. Ed., 1956, p.169). For other perpetuelle watches with similarly decorated dials, see op.cit. pp.189-190 & Sotheby's Geneva, Masterworks of Time Part II, 11 November 2019, lot 88.
