CHRIST AMONG THE DOCTORS
oil on canvas
38⅞ by 47¾ in.; 98.7 by 121.3 cm.
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, email@example.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
This work is in very good condition. The canvas has a good Italian paste lining. The texture of the original paint is well preserved. The painting is clean. There are visible pentimenti, particularly in the figure group in the center and in the side of the head of the figure in blue on the left, but there does not appear to be any abrasion to the paint layer. There is some dark underpainting visible at the top of the sky in the upper left, but this is also a pentiment rather than abrasion. Under ultraviolet light, one can see retouching around the extreme edges, particularly across the bottom edge. Within the picture proper, there are very few retouches except for a few spots in the upper right. The work should be hung in its current state.
