A WEDGWOOD PEARLWARE 'LEAFAGE' ASSEMBLED PART-DESSERT SERVICE, CIRCA 1820


painted in shades of green and yellow, comprising two two-handled oval comports and stands, four sauce tureens, three covers and four stands and one pierced ladle, twelve oval fern leaf-molded serving dishes, four large leaf-shaped dishes, three rectangular dishes, twenty-five dessert plates impressed uppercase WEDGWOOD marks, various impressed letters. 60 pieces

'Leafage' patterns are recorded at Wedgwood as early as 1783 in Jasperware, see Robin Reilly, Wedgwood, Vol. I, p. 619, pl. 918, and remained popular throughout the 19th century. Forms were produced in caneware, green-glazed earthenware and majolica. A similar part-service of this type was sold at Sotheby's New York, 10 October 1990, lot 514
