Property from the Collection of Nina Goldbin Anderton

[妮娜・戈德賓・安德頓珍藏]

Diamond Necklace

[鑽石項鏈]

Centering a paisley-shaped motif set with round and baguette diamonds, accented by marquise-shaped diamonds, suspended from a line of baguette diamonds, length 14⅜ inches; circa 1955.

Nina Goldbin Anderton was born to very modest means in rural Wisconsin in 1898 but went on to become a formidable fashion icon, socialite and philanthropist in Southern California.  She was instrumental in several fashionable pursuits; from popularizing the “permanent wave” hairdo from France in the 1920s to commissioning Anderton Court Shops on Rodeo Drive, the only primarily commercial retail complex ever designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

However, Nina was probably most revered for her philanthropy, making significant gifts in support of the City of Hope, Exceptional Children’s Foundation and in the establishment of the Nina Anderton Laboratory for Electron Microscopy at the University of California at Berkeley, which is still utilized by the Department of Infectious Diseases.
