The Artist's Family
Anthony d'Offay, London, where acquired by the present owners
The present work is the last of Vanessa Bell's four illustrations made for Virginia Woolf's biography of Flush, the pet spaniel that belonged to Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It depicts Flush dozing at the feet of Catterina, a fruit seller near the Brownings' home, the Casa Guidi in Florence.
We are grateful to Richard Shone for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.
