The board appears sound. The board bows slightly towards the centre. The board has discoloured slightly (only visible in the unpainted areas). There are a few minute specks of loss to the pigment, including to the sky at upper left, to the centre of the lower right quadrant, in the thatched roof and in the blue sky towards the right edge. There may be one or two further more minor specks of loss elsewhere. There is a very short scratch with associated very minor loss to the pigment in the upper right quadrant. There is a small yellow stain towards the lower edge at centre. There is some possible bloom towards the lower edge. There is some light surface dirt and a few very minor instances of staining, specks of matter and studio detritus to the work in places. This excepting, the work appears to be in good overall condition.
Inspection under Ultraviolet light reveals a few minute specks of retouching to the centre of the foreground, with a few further possible more minor instances elsewhere and fluorescence in line with the Artist's preparation of the board.
The work is presented in a wooden and gold painted wooden frame.

Holleyman & Treacher, Brighton
Private Collection USA
The present work is the view of the back of the farmyard at Charleston, Sussex, and was in the collection of the writer and translator Angus Davidson (1898-1980), a great friend of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. After his death, his library and collection were sold by Holleyman and Treacher of Brighton, where Davidson spent his last years.
We are grateful to Richard Shone for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.
