MAXIMILIEN LUCE

(1858 - 1941)

LA CATHÉDRALE DE GISORS VUE DU FOSSÉ AUX TANNEURS

Signed Luce and dated 97 (lower right)

Oil on canvas

23 by 16⅛ in. (58.4 by 41 cm)

Framed: 29¾ by 23¼ in. (75.6 by 59.1 cm)

Painted in 1897.

The canvas is unlined. There is an undulation to the canvas, most notably in the lower right quadrant. All four edges of the canvas have been taped. The colors are bright and well preserved. Minor frame abrasion to the top, left and bottom edges. A few minor scattered stains. Under UV light: Pindot strokes of inpainting to the top and bottom edges. Minor strokes to the top half of the extreme right edge, likely to address frame abrasion. Two pindot strokes below the center window. This work is in good condition.
