MAXIMILIEN LUCE

(1858 - 1941)

BESSY-SUR-CURE, PAYSANNES GARDANT UN TROUPEAU DE VACHES

Signed Luce and dated 1906 (lower right)

Oil on canvas

25½ by 21¼ in. (64.8 by 54 cm)

Framed: 42½ by 37 in. (108 by 94 cm)

Painted in 1906.

Denise Bazetoux has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work.

The canvas is unlined. A single pindot hole to the canvas at lower right, possibly an artist's pinhole. A fine network of craquelure to the pigments of the sky. A few additional scattered cracks and a single vertical area of pigment separation to the large tree at center right. A pindot loss to the pigment in the upper right corner. Under UV light: A thick layer of varnish prevents conclusive examination. Some minor possible strokes of inpainting to the upper left corner. Otherwise, fine. This work is overall very good condition.
