Born outside of Budapest in 1911, Teddy Kollek became an Israeli politician and seven-time mayor of Jerusalem. Kollek was a dedicated supporter of the arts, founding The Israel Museum and commissioning Chagall to create works for the Israeli Knesset and the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Upon Chagall’s death in 1985, his estate donated dozens of works to The Israel museum in his memory.
