RAOUL DUFY

(1877 - 1953)

LES MANNEQUINS AUX COURSES

Signed Raoul Dufy (toward lower right); variously inscribed around the perimeter of the composition

Collage, gouache and pencil on card

11¾ by 20 in. (29.8 by 50.8 cm)

Framed: 16½ by 24¼ in. (41.9 by 61.6 cm)

Executed in 1920.

Executed on card which has been hinged to a mount on two places along the upper edge of its verso. The bottom edge of the card has been cut with one minor associated loss and the top edge has stains and remnants of tape from a previous mounting. Additional tape runs vertically along the left and right edges with a couple minor creases within the tape. The image itself fills a space approximately 9 by 17 inches with various inscriptions presented throughout the outer margins. The female figures are painted collage elements. Margins are variously stained but the central composition is largely in very good state with some minor shrinkage, abrasion and staining inherent to the artist's process. The work is in overall very good condition.
