Condition Report

The movement is in working condition at the time of cataloguing. All functions are working properly. The dial is attractive overall with some very light spotting around 4 o'clock and light oxidation mark. The lumes react under UV. The case is in nice and original condition with only very minor polishing and light surface wear, all surface wear can be seen with the naked eye. The case with nice lines and facets. The insert with only light wear but in good overall condition. The numbers on the case back can still be read with a loupe. The case back with light surface wear throughout and very minor signs of opening. The buckle with light surface wear.

Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts.

Catalogue Note

This Universal Geneva Compax chronograph is in extremely well preserved condition. It is referred to by collectors as the 'Nina Rindt' as it was famously worn by the model through the 1960s to 1970s. Nina was the wife of racecar driver Jochen Rindt.

The watch is very reminiscent of chronographs found during this time, like the Omega Speedmaster or Rolex Daytona and the watch is powered by the legendary Valjoux 72 movement, again, like the Rolex Daytona.
