The present set of cloisonné enamel watches, reference 5076 with rectangular case, illustrate the firm's creative flare when manufacturing beautiful cloisonné watches.
Patek Philippe is particularly skilled in the art of cloisonné. The word cloisonné comes from the word 'cloister', meaning to partition and use in reference to the cloisons, or the gold wires that are used to separate the session of the enamel. To bring an enamel painting to life, the cloison are painstakingly molded, hammered and set to the shape of the artisan's desire. This process is extremely difficult because gold wire is very soft and requires delecate handling. The cloison are then filled with enamel paste and subsequently placed in a kiln for firing.
Every important collection in the world contains at least one set of cloisonné masterpieces and Sotheby's is delighted to share the following set for sale.
Still in its factory packaging, the present watch features two vibrant blue cheek butterfly fish fishing amongst red coral reef. The watch is furthermore complete with its original certificate.
