To celebrate the opening of Patek Philippe’s new manufacturing center in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva in 1997, the reference 5500 was created in a limited production. The reference was nicknamed the “Pagoda” for its immensely curved lugs and flat base inspired by the design of a traditional South and East Asia architecture called the Pagoda.
