During the time of the “Quartz Crisis” in the 1970s and early 1980s, many watchmakers and brands suffered a significant downfall in business, often discarding their faith in the future of traditional watchmaking. However, the brand Audemars Piguet decided to seek help from Gerald Genta in creating a watch that is simple, elegant and sporty despite the turn of events. The creation of this watch led to the now famous watch model “Royal Oak”.

The early version of the Royal Oak, reference 5402 can be categorized into 4 categories, A, B, C and D. While many would consider the A-Series being the original version of the Royal Oak, the present watch is a B-Series Royal Oak which collectors believe may be the rarest series among the 4. To the best of our knowledge with only a thousand pieces made, the present watch is in excellent overall condition with a very sharp and crisp case.
