Production of reference 565 started in 1938 and its 35 mm case was considered very substantial at the time. It was further one of the first waterproof wristwatches by Patek Philippe and received the nickname 'Grande Calatrava Etanche' to differentiate it from reference 438. The two-part case with protective cap was made by Taubert, the premier company producing waterproof cases since the end of the 19th century. The dials were made by the renowned Stern Frères.

The present lot is a well-preserved example with wonderful proportions and crisp hallmark to the band. It is fresh to the market and thus offered for the first time publicly in an auction.
