The reference 6262, as well as its cousin 6264 had the shortest production period and were available only for just over a year one year, between the very end of the 1969 and 1971. Given this incredibly short production run, examples are rare to market.
Reference 6262 can be considered as the bridge between the early and the late vintage Rolex Daytona models. Indeed, it combines the pump pushers such as the 6239, the first Daytona, and the 727 Valjoux calibre, the final evolution of the movement which was also housed in the 6263 and 6265 models.
In addition, the current example retains its black ‘exotic’ 3 color Paul Newman dial, These exotic dials were later to became known as 'Paul Newman' dial, after the actor. It is characterized by its square markers in the chronograph scale and subsidiary dials, as well as the alternating patterning of the coloration. At the time, these exotic dialed variants proved less popular, and so were sold in significantly fewer numbers than those with standard dials.
