Introduced in 2006 and celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, Patek Philippe released the reference 5980 along with reference 5711 and 5712 marking a new era for one of the brands most celebrated the coveted ranges. The 5980 represented the first time that the Nautilus was fitted with a chronograph complication utilizing the brands very first in-house self-winding chronograph cal. CH 28-520. Discarding the conventional chronograph dial layout, Patek instead introduced a simplified design using a co-axial subsidiary dial combining all registers into one.

At launch, the model was available in steel with black/blue dial followed by a silvered dial in 2012. Precious metal variants were also available, notably pink gold on both strap and bracelet, and a bi metal steel and gold variant launched in 2013. as well as in pink gold on strap to be later followed by an example of bracelet before the model was discontinued in its entirety in 2014.

The current example represents on of the last examples dating from 2014 with a movement adorned with the Patek Philippe seal rather than the Geneva seal. The briefness of its production run, combined with practicality both in design and usability has meant that the reference 5980 in steel has become one of the most desirable models in one of Patek Philippe’s stable of watches.

The present example, cased in stainless steel and on integrated bracelet, is complete with all accessories and is presented in like new condition.
