Ziona Tajar was the first woman artist born in the modern land of Israel and came from one of the first 60 founding families of the city of Tel Aviv, two facts inherent to the artist's work. Her paintings combine the qualities of artistic modernism and sophistication with the naive ideology, warmth and optimism of the pre-state days.

In the present lot, Tajar uses loose, bold brushstrokes and intersecting planes to capture the spirit and tone of this arresting landscape. The vibrant palette and warm Mediterranean light are characteristic of the artist's local "Israeli" style and validate her reputation as one of Israel's finest artists.
