of cylindrical form chased with borders of strapwork on matted ground, ball finial, forked thumbpiece and scroll handle, engraved with lengthy Hebrew inscription

marked on base and rim of cover with maker’s mark and city mark

height 5 3/8 in.

The inscription reads: “In honor of the temple and festivals of God, this has been donated by the humble Mr. Moses Ber Alzheimer ben Mordechai, of blessed memory, of Roth and his wife, the honorable Mrs. Genendel, may she live, bat Samson, of blessed memory, cantor in Hainsfarth. These silver beakers are for use during Kiddush and Havdalah in the synagogue of the Holy Community of Ansbach. [Dedicated] on the centenary of the original founding of the local synagogue, with the help of God, today, 18 Elul, in the year “I greatly rejoice in God” [Isa. 61:10] [5606].”

The date 18 Elul 5606 corresponds to September 9, 1846.
