circa 1949
glazed earthenware, terracotta
incised JOUVE and with the artist's cipher
13 3/8 in. (34 cm) high
Overall in very good condition. The ceramic body and glazing present with very minor irregularities and minute occasional pinholes inherent to production and the artist's practice. The ceramic with very fine surface scuffing and light scratches throughout consistent with gentle use. The terracotta decorations present with superb incised decorations which remain intact and display subtle color variations inherent to production, which oscillate between light beige and russet brown. The terracotta with occasional and shallow flecks to the clay surface concentrated to the side edges and not visually distracting. This piece has been inspected under blacklight and shows no apparent evidence of prior restoration.
