Overall in very good condition. A superb example of François-Xavie’s playful “Tortue Topiaires” designs, the present work exhibits spectacular sculptural presence when viewed in person. The body and shell are coated with a dark grey patina with hints of brown. The patina presents with areas of scattered discolorations revealing red and copper undertones (possibly the primer used by the artist) which are only visible upon close inspection. The metal presents with light surface scratches throughout as well as very minor edgewear consistent with gentle handling. The metal with occasional and minor surface irregularities, minimal casting imperfections and shallow dimples to the surface inherent to production.
The inside of the Tortue’s shell presents with two meshed metal tiers allowing for easy installation of topiary and plants. As pictured in the catalogue photography and shown in the exhibition gallery, the work presently includes moss and cacti for display which may be removed or kept upon the client’s request.
