Dish

circa 1953

glazed earthenware

incised Jouve with the artist's cipher

2 3/4 x 16 3/8 x 13 1/4 in. (6.9 x 41.6 x 33.6 cm)

Overall in very good condition. Enhanced with beautiful semi-figurative motifs, the dish retains its bright colors and smooth glazed surface overall. The ceramic body presents with surface irregularities inherent to production and the artist's practice. The colorful elements at the center of the dish exhibit some occasional and very light discoloration and well as very minute pinholes consistent with age and not visually distracting. One edge of the orange surface with some minor and later inpainting to the glaze covering an area measuring approximately 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch, not visible unless inspected under black light.
