Property from an Important Private Collection, Manhattan
produced by Ateliers Jean Prouvé, Nancy, France
oak, enameled steel
38 x 82 3/8 x 21 1/4 in. (96.5 x 209 x 54 cm)
Overall in very good condition. A rare form by Jean Prouvé, this piece appears to retain its original green paint which presents with scratches, dark paint stains, discolorations, losses and occasionally irregular application inherent to production. The metal with oxidation and rust marks concentrated to each base and the underside of the seat consistent with use.
The wooden surfaces appear to have been refinished at some point in the history of the piece and present with expected wear, scratches and edge abrasions consistent with use. The edges of the wooden elements with evidence of occasional and very minor inpainting, not visible unless inspected with a blacklight. The seat with two hairline cracks on either side which are stable, the largest measuring approximately 9 inches. The two rectangular wooden foot pads attached to each base on either side are likely later additions to the piece and are in very good condition overall.
