Description

André Borderie, Véra Szekely and Pierre Szekely
An Important and Unique Low Table
circa 1955
glazed earthenware, painted metal
14 5/8 x 30 1/4 x 20 7/8 in. (37 x 76.8 x 52.8 cm)
An exceptional example of the collaboration that united André Borderie, Véra Szekely and Pierre Szekely, the present table displays fantastic unity between the delicate and colorful ceramic body and a free-form painted metal structure. Its unusual and highly sculptural form in the shape of a guitar are a direct reference to the table's original owner, legendary French musician Henri Salvador. A period photograph shows the present lot at the very center of Salvador's living room in his Paris home.
