“You have to start with an understanding of the material. Often your innovation is just coming up with a new way to use material,” says Australian designer Marc Newson. His “Extruded” High Consoles (lots 138 and 139) constitute perfect examples of his design philosophy centered around an intrinsic understanding of materials and their potential in creating high-quality design. These unique consoles are characterized by a stunning use of White Carrara C marble, whose incredibly detailed veining participate in adding dynamism and texture to their aerodynamic construction. Inspired by the formalistic principles that defined members of the celebrated “Extruded” family, the present form adds additional layers of complexity and depth to the series. This unique pair, which is the result a private commission to the artist by the present owner, provide collectors with the opportunity to acquire a one-of-a-kind design by the acclaimed designer.
