A FINE PAIR OF DOUCAI 'FLORAL' DISHES

YONGZHENG MARKS AND PERIOD

清雍正 鬥彩花卉紋盤一對 《大清雍正年製》款



each with gently rounded sides rising from a tapering foot, the interior centered with an iron-red blossom growing from a leafy stalk amidst a dense ground of foliate meander within double line borders, the exterior similarly decorated with five further blossoms painted in colorful enamels, a band of polychrome ruyi encircling the foot, the base inscribed with a six-character mark within a double circle (2)


Diameter 6⅜ in., 16.2 cm

Acquired by the early 20th century, and thence by descent.

A closely related pair from the Doris Duke Collection was sold at Christie's New York, 21st September 2004, lot 330. Similar doucai designs can be found on Yongzheng porcelain employing different floral species, including lotus.
