It is rare to find any tray of this boat form, probably created at workshops in Guangzhou and sent as tribute to the Imperial court, and it is even rarer to find a pair of such quality. An individual example of similar size, also bearing a four-character Qianlong mark within a double square, was included by Michael Gillingham in the exhibition Chinese Painted Enamels, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, 1978, cat. no. 73. See also another pair, enamelled on a blue ground, sold at Sotheby's Olympia, 16th November 2001, lot 337.
