ferrotyped gelatin silver print, ‘8’ in red grease pencil in the margin, the photographer's Johannesburg studio/copyright/numerical notations, 1976
image: 9 ⅝ by 6 ½ in. (24.4 by 16.5 cm)
Please note the colors in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings. This print, with a glossy surface and uneven margins, is in generally excellent condition. There are scattered handling creases including a crease in the left figure's neck that appears to break the emulsion. The margin corners are bumped and the upper and lower edges are abraded and soiled. '8' is written in red pencil in the margin. On the reverse, there is a South African customs stamp dated '1976.' The following are written in pencil in an unidentified hand: 'SBG-DG-0028-0'; 'F3087'; '4'; '3'; '11'; '15'; and '8 [circled].'

Canadian writer Barry Callaghan’s publication EXILE, A Journal of Canadian and International Writing, used the occasion to publish a 39-page spread of his Goldblatt’s work in Volume 4, Number 1." - Stephen Bulger
