8vo (224 x 140 mm, uncut). Color frontispiece, 10 plates and numerous text vignettes by C. M. Russell and Frederick Remington. Publisher's gilt-lettered quarter vellum, brown gilt-lettered paper boards, top edges gilt; spine slightly darkened and spotted. Brown buckram clamshell case, red morocco gilt lettering-piece.
Copy 5 of 100 numbered copies, signed by Wister and printed on Japan vellum. One of the most famous of all western novels and the inspiration for many later films and works of fiction. This limited edition was issued nine years after the first edition.
